Lugard Edokpayi has emerged as one of the top uncommitted players in the nation. The Maryland standout defensive lineman possesses an impressive offer list and a scheduled lineup of official visits. However, will Michigan football, the latest offering school, secure an official visit?
Edokpayi recently unveiled a top five consisting of Florida State, Maryland, Michigan State, Rutgers, and Texas A&M. One hour after the announcement, Michigan offered him a spot.
Edokpayi, standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 225 pounds, is an incredibly athletic and long defensive end at Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Maryland). He holds a four-star recruit status according to ESPN.
Michigan has the potential to significantly influence his recruitment. Although there hasn’t been an update on his top five, it appears that Michigan is making favorable headway with him.
“I’m definitely excited about Michigan,” Edokpayi shared when speaking to USA TODAY High School Sports this week.
“They’re a great football program so I’m definitely open to them.”
He added that the message from Michigan was straightforward.
“(That) I’m a great player and they can see me doing big things with the right guidance and help,” stated Edokpayi.
“Get me to the next level and talked to me about a little bit of their culture.”
This weekend, Edokpayi is set to visit Minnesota. After that, he plans to visit Rutgers in the first weekend of December followed by Texas A&M. He then intends to visit Michigan and Florida State.
Two weeks ago, he visited Rutgers for their 35-16 loss to No. 1 Ohio State. Edokpayi was deeply impressed with the program’s direction under Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano.
“They made the cut because they were straightforward from the get-go, Coach Schiano is a great coach and the way he talks, I respect him,” expressed Edokpayi.
