OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR COLLIN KLEIN

Klein discusses the first play of the TCU game…

“We’ve had some similar plays in our playbook for a while. Coach (Klieman) and I were reviewing them and decided to run it in that game. The players executed it well during practice, so we went with it.”

Klein explains the decision to run tackle-over-tackle against TCU…

“We’ve tried it a couple of times before in certain situations last year. We saw some opportunities on tape and thought it would give us an advantage with double teams. TCU adjusted their defense, but our players handled it well. It worked out for us.”

Klein expresses confidence in wide receiver Jayce Brown…

“I wasn’t surprised to see him make those plays. He’s been working hard and taking advantage of his opportunities in practice. He deserves the success, and I believe he has more to offer.”

Klein reflects on having a top-20 scoring offense…

“We’re always looking for the next opportunity to improve. The credit goes to our players and their teamwork. They need to continue working hard because there’s more to achieve. They know that, and it’s been a collective effort.”

Klein discusses preparing for Houston’s defensive fronts…

“We’re aware of the possibility of facing different formations from Houston. Our defense and the previous game against TCU has given our players experience with it. We’ll be prepared for both scenarios.”

DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR JOE KLANDERMAN

Klanderman talks about keeping TCU out of the endzone…

“I was concerned about that. Our players gave their all and executed our game plan with pride. They wanted to keep TCU from scoring at the end of the game, and they did. It was a great stop.”

Klanderman discusses the team’s improvement throughout the season…

“Our safeties have been playing better, and we’ve made some lineup adjustments at linebacker. We’re getting more comfortable playing together. The execution has improved, and there’s a better flow to our defense now.”

Klanderman shares his thoughts on having a top-20 scoring defense…

“To be honest, I didn’t even realize that. Our focus has been on stopping each play, each series, and each quarter. We’ve taken the pressure off our players, and they’re playing more freely now. They’re just doing what they do best, and it’s made us more comfortable on the field.”

Klanderman praises linebacker Jake Clifton’s contributions as a starter…

“We consider Jake a starter because he plays as many snaps as one. He’s a fantastic football player and is versatile in different positions. We couldn’t have done what we’re doing without him. His absence was noticeable, and as Austin Romaine recovers, Jake will continue to play a key role. He’s been exceptional.”

Klanderman provides an update on linebacker Austin Romaine’s status…

“Austin will likely play this week, although maybe not as many snaps as before the injury. He’s been practicing and will be ready to go.”
