Warriors’ Steph Curry expects Bay Area WNBA team to be ‘first-class’ – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Stephen Curry recently changed the channel on his TV from the Warriors locker room at Chase Center. It wasn’t because he dislikes preseason NBA highlights, but because there were more captivating highlights available.

Curry preferred highlights from the WNBA Finals between the Las Vegas Aces and the New York Liberty. He knows some of the players personally and is a big fan of their games.

He expressed excitement about the upcoming WNBA team that will begin play at Chase Center in 2025, as Warriors CEO Joe Lacob and co-chairman Peter Guber recently purchased rights to an expansion franchise.

Curry praised the Warriors organization and expressed hope for the WNBA’s growth. “It’s about growing the game. It’s about bringing great, fresh energy to it. And we can do it in the bay and under this organization. It should be first-class all the way around.”

Curry is known for his active involvement in supporting women’s basketball at all levels. He has close relationships with college stars and hopes some of them will join the San Francisco franchise in the future.

While the WNBA is growing in terms of franchises, TV ratings, and attendance, Curry believes that there’s a wave of momentum driving the game’s popularity. He anticipates a considerable number of college stars soon entering the league, which adds to the hype.

Furthermore, Curry has actively advocated for the women’s game, which includes urging his manufacturer, Under Armour, to design basketball shoes specifically for girls.

“It’s exciting,” Curry emphasized, embracing the WNBA expansion. “It is the way it should be.”
