United States to begin in Perth

Perth and Sydney will be the hosts of the highly anticipated second edition of the United Cup, bringing together the world’s best tennis players in 2024. This event will mark the start of the Australian summer of tennis and is expected to be a thrilling competition. The official draw has divided the eighteen countries into six groups of three teams each, adding an element of excitement to the tournament.

Location of Matches

In Perth, the RAC Arena will serve as the venue for Group A matches, featuring top seeds Poland led by the renowned Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz, as well as Spain and another team to be confirmed based on WTA rankings. Group C in Perth will see the Australian team led by Alex de Minaur and Ajla Tomljanovic competing against defending champions United States and Great Britain. Meanwhile, Group E in Perth will consist of Czech Republic, China, and Team Serbia led by Novak Djokovic.

In Sydney, Team Greece, led by Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari, will be the top seed in Group B. They will face Team Canada, making their United Cup debut, and a third team to be confirmed based on ATP rankings. Group D will bring together Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber’s return to tennis, representing Germany alongside Alexander Zverev, as they compete against France and Italy. Lastly, Group F in Sydney will feature Croatia’s Borna Coric and Donna Vekic leading alongside Netherlands and Norway, with the presence of Casper Ruud, ranked 8th in the world.

The United Cup, a prestigious ATP-WTA event presented in partnership with Tennis Australia, offers a significant prize money of at least AUD $15 million and provides players with 500 Pepperstone ATP and 500 WTA Tour rankings points.

Second Edition: Expanded Format

The second edition of the United Cup will see each city hosting nine teams, three more than the previous edition. Each team will consist of up to three men and three women, creating added excitement. In a new format for 2024, each tie will be decided in one session and will include one men’s singles match, one women’s singles match featuring the top-ranked players, and one mixed doubles match.

The tournament will commence in Perth at the RAC Arena on December 29, 2023, while the group stage matches in Sydney will begin on December 30. The group winners from each city will advance to the quarterfinals, with one quarterfinal spot in each city reserved for the best runner-up. The semifinals and finals will take place in Sydney on January 6 and 7, resulting in an intense finish to the competition.
