On November 26th, the UND men’s basketball team emerged victorious once again, securing their fifth consecutive win with a thrilling 72-70 triumph over Eastern Michigan at the Central Arkansas Classic.
This impressive winning streak marks the first time the Fighting Hawks have achieved such a feat since February 2017.
Tsotne Tsartsidze demonstrated his prowess with a remarkable double-double, contributing 13 points and 11 rebounds to the team’s success.
Additionally, Treysen Eaglestaff shined with 22 points, becoming the second Fighting Hawk player to achieve back-to-back 20-plus point games this season.
Unlike their previous game, the Fighting Hawks sprinted out to an early lead, dominating the opening 10 minutes and maintaining a lead of up to nine points.
As the first half unfolded, UND consistently maintained their lead, with both teams displaying identical shooting statistics of 12-29 from the floor. Despite a late surge from EMU, UND maintained a slender 34-32 lead at halftime.
Although EMU initially seized control in the second half, Tsartsidze’s 3-pointer initiated a game-changing 7-0 run, propelling UND to within two points of their opponents.
Throughout the intense second half, EMU maintained a lead, but an exceptional performance from Eaglestaff in the final minutes resulted in a 69-67 advantage for UND.
Ultimately, UND’s proficiency at the foul line proved crucial, as they converted 21-29 attempts, compared to EMU’s 8-14. This advantage played a significant role in securing their victory.
The Fighting Hawks are now set to return home for their upcoming match against Concordia (Minn.) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Betty.
