The UFC has recently unveiled the schedule for its first three pay-per-view main events of 2024. Buckle up as these events will feature intense battles for the middleweight title, as well as the men’s featherweight and bantamweight belts.
Get ready for an intense showdown at UFC 297 in January, as Sean Strickland defends the middleweight title against the formidable Dricus Du Plessis. The stakes are high, and the fight promises to be a battle for the ages. Moving on to UFC 298 in February, witness the featherweight title defense by the renowned fighter Alexander Volkanovski as he faces the relentless Ilia Topuria. And finally, marking the crescendo of this thrilling series, UFC 299 in March presents the electrifying bout between Sean O’Malley defending his bantamweight gold against the formidable Marlon “Chito” Vera.
But that’s not all! Brace yourself for the long-awaited comeback of Conor McGregor at UFC 300 in April. This event is rumored to be the platform for McGregor’s highly anticipated return to the Octagon.
Dana White, the president of UFC, announced these exciting matches on Monday (6 November), revealing that the events will take place on 20 January, 17 February, and 9 March. While UFC 297 will be held in Canada, the locations for the February and March events are yet to be disclosed.
The victory of Sean Strickland over Israel Adesanya in September to claim the 185lbs title stunned the UFC world and became one of the most remarkable upsets in the history of the sport. His upcoming opponent, Dricus Du Plessis, was originally set to face Adesanya but had to withdraw due to an injury.
Meanwhile, Alexander Volkanovski has been reigning as the 145lbs champion since 2019 and is yet to suffer a defeat in that weight class. Nevertheless, he faced setbacks in 2023 with two losses while attempting to capture the lightweight title in fierce battles against Islam Makhachev. Now, coming off a first-round knockout, Volkanovski squares off against the undefeated and dangerous Georgian fighter, Ilia Topuria, who boasts an impressive record of 14 wins with 12 finishes.
In addition, the highly popular Sean O’Malley clinched the bantamweight title with a sensational knockout of Aljamain Sterling in August. Now, he seeks redemption in a rematch against the only fighter who handed him a loss in his professional career, “Chito” Vera. In their previous encounter, Vera emerged victorious after O’Malley suffered a leg injury.
