UCLA suffered a disappointing loss to Arizona on Saturday night, leaving them yearning for the start of basketball season. The game was marred by injuries to two quarterbacks, missed field goals, and a lack of red zone success. In the end, UCLA’s final drive ended with an incomplete pass from a third-string quarterback, sealing their defeat.

UCLA coach Chip Kelly acknowledged the frustration felt by the team, stating, “I told them it stings and it hurts because they put so much into it.” The loss dropped UCLA to seventh place in the Pac-12 standings and likely out of the national rankings.

The Bruins struggled to find their rhythm on offense after both Garbers and Moore were injured. Their only successful drive came at the end of the first half when they employed a hurry-up offense. Despite this, UCLA still had hope for a comeback after blocking a punt early in the fourth quarter. However, Moore’s pass on fourth down was incomplete, leading to Arizona adding a field goal and securing the victory.

Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita had a standout performance, completing 25 of 32 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns. He was supported by wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, who made a remarkable touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. The Wildcats dominated the game, outgaining the Bruins in total yardage and converting more third downs.

On the other hand, UCLA’s quarterbacks struggled to make an impact. Garbers threw for 143 yards and a touchdown before getting injured, while Moore completed just four of seven passes for 14 yards. The Bruins faced numerous setbacks throughout the game, including a fumbled snap and blocked field goal.

UCLA’s mistakes, such as penalties and missed opportunities in the red zone, ultimately cost them the game. The team acknowledged their errors, with UCLA running back Carson Steele admitting, “Mostly mistakes on us… The runs, the routes… pass protection.”

Overall, it was a disappointing loss for UCLA, but they will now turn their focus to basketball season.
