It was a historic day for Parkston which emerged victoriously in both the 11-man and nine-man state championships on Thursday in Vermillion. Wall defeated Parkston in the state Class 9AA championship game last year, but the Trojans made a remarkable comeback to win with a perfect 12-0 season. They triumphed over Howard with a 12-7 win in the DakotaDome, claiming their first 9-man football title. The Trojans, known for their consistent performance, also won the 2014 state title and secured three runner-up finishes in Class 11B.
Howard finally made a mark with a 1-yard touchdown run by Taiden Hoyer, taking a 7-0 lead in the first half. However, Parkston’s defense held strong in the second half, and Luke Bormann sealed the victory with two quick-fire touchdowns late in the third quarter.
