Tomljanovic’s Thrilling Victory at WTA 125 Florianopolis Propels Comeback

Australian tennis player Ajla Tomljanovic achieved a remarkable comeback after her injury, securing a victory in the WTA 125 MundoTenis Open final against Argentina’s Martina Capurro Taborda. Tomljanovic emerged triumphant with a score of 6-1, 7-5 in her match held in Florianopolis, Brazil.

Notably featured in Netflix’s “Break Point,” Tomljanovic overcame her ten-year dry spell by winning her highest-level singles title. The 30-year-old athlete has had an illustrious career, with three Grand Slam quarterfinals and four Hologic WTA Tour finals to her name.

Tomljanovic had to withdraw from her matches in Australia at the start of 2023 due to a knee injury, despite reaching a career-high ranking of No. 32 in April. Her return at the US Open proved to be a pivotal moment, solidifying her resilience and standout performance at the MundoTenis Open.

During Sunday’s final match, Tomljanovic managed to maintain a strong lead against Capurro Taborda, ultimately claiming the title after gaining multiple game victories.

In the doubles final, Italy’s Sara Errani and Leolia Jeanjean of France clinched the victory over Julia Lohoff of Germany and Conny Perrin of Switzerland after a compelling match, which lasted for 1 hour and 25 minutes, ending the seven-match winning streak of Lohoff and Perrin.

Errani, a former World No.1 in doubles and World No.5 in singles, added another title to her impressive tennis career, while Jeanjean celebrated her first WTA 125 doubles title win.
