TJ Oshie encountered a frightening injury during the match against the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.
The forward, with a history of concussions, collided violently with Oilers’ defenseman Mattias Ekholm as the Capitals attempted to enter the offensive zone.
Oshie seemed to have been struck in the head by Ekholm, collapsing on the ice. The incident occurred with 17:51 remaining in the second period.

Following the collision, Oshie laid motionless on his side as John Carlson signaled for head athletic trainer Jason Serbus to get him onto the ice quickly. Oshie eventually turned onto his back, keeping his eyes closed and placing his hand over his face. The seasoned forward eventually got up, receiving assistance from his teammates as he was helped off the ice. Ekholm seemed distressed and exchanged words with the Capitals forward, seemingly apologizing.
Capital fans chanted “Let’s go Oshie” as he made his way down the runway.
Despite making head contact, Ekholm was not penalized for the play.
The Capitals swiftly announced Oshie’s inability to continue in the game due to an upper-body injury.
