Tiger Woods’ and Rory McIlroy’s TGL debut has been postponed to early 2025 after the collapse of the dome that was set to host the league last week. This decision was made after assessing various factors including short-term solutions, potential construction timelines, player schedules, and the sports television calendar.
The inaugural season of the made-for-television league was supposed to kick off on Jan 9, 2024, at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach, Florida. However, a partial power failure caused the dome to deflate, leading to the postponement of the event.
No injuries were reported, and most of the technology remained unaffected by the incident, according to the TGL statement.
The league, consisting of six teams, will feature weekly matches in an arena with a simulator approximately 20 times larger than a standard one, along with a “green zone” that allows various shots to an adjustable putting surface.
Woods expressed his confidence in the league’s concept despite the setbacks, stating, “I’ve been a believer in TGL, and as the momentum has built this past year, I’m even more excited about what this can become for fans of the game all around the world.”
McIlroy, a co-founder of the league, also remains optimistic, saying, “Given the circumstances, while the delay is disappointing, the postponement will allow us to regroup, refocus and return stronger.”
