Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods is set to lead the ownership group for the sixth and final team in TGL presented by SoFi, a cutting-edge golf league co-founded by Woods and Rory McIlroy, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
Woods, along with TGR Ventures and David Blitzer, a senior executive at the private equity firm Blackstone and co-managing partner of the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils, will be the proud owners of Jupiter Links Golf Club.
Additionally, Woods is the first confirmed player for Jupiter Links Golf Club’s four-man roster, as the golfing legend is a longtime resident of Jupiter, Florida.
“Through its use of technology, TGL is a modern twist of traditional golf and ultimately will make the sport I love more accessible,” Woods stated. “Having the opportunity to not only compete, but also own a team to represent Jupiter is an exciting next chapter for me. I expect Jupiter Links GC to showcase the golf culture of my hometown as we compete against the best players in the world.”
Woods, who has been sidelined from the PGA Tour since April due to surgery on his right ankle, has recently caddied for his son, Charlie, at a junior golf championship in Louisiana, signaling a welcomed return to the game.
As for his much anticipated return, Woods is hosting the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas at the end of November, followed by the PNC Championship in Orlando where he has competed alongside his son in recent years.
On the business front, David Blitzer expressed his excitement in partnering with Tiger Woods to form Jupiter Links GC, highlighting the potential reach and impact they can have as a team and league in the world of golf.
It is worth noting that TGL has also announced that the league will consist of six teams with four-man rosters, featuring matches with three golfers per team in a match-play format on a virtual course with a short-game complex. The matches will be broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN+.
