After returning to competition just in time to play in — and complete — a PGA Tour event in the final month of the year, Tiger Woods expressed his readiness for more regular appearances in 2024. Speaking following his round of 72, Woods felt hopeful about a plan to play once a month next year after feeling encouraged by his return to the PGA Tour, despite an injury-induced withdrawal midway through April’s Masters.
Woods began the tournament “a little rusty” with a round of 75 but finished strong with rounds of 70, 71, and 72, proving that he could handle the rigors of a full 72 holes of tournament-level play, despite significant room for improvement in his performance.
Woods also expressed his hope to play a little cleaner next time, highlighting that even with room for improvement, it felt nice to compete after a long hiatus from the sport.
His return this year was special, with many players excited to see him back on the course after not playing in the Hero World Challenge since 2019. This year’s event was a particularly significant step in his journey back to professional golf.
Woods shared that he was pleased with his driving at the Albany Golf Course in Nassau but noted that his short game needed some improvement. Data Golf statistics showed that Woods excelled in shots gained off the tee but lagged behind in shots gained around the green and putting.
Tiger Woods discusses return to golf, sport’s ‘murky’ future
Looking ahead, Woods is set to make his next competitive appearance later this month in a non-PGA event, the PNC Championship, where he will team up with his son, Charlie.
When asked about the benefits of his fusion surgery and future participation in major events, Woods shared his thoughts on the aging process and the challenges that come with staying competitive among younger athletes.
