The Rwanda Energy Group (REG) women’s basketball team has made a major acquisition by signing Tiffany Mitchell, a star player from the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Mitchell, 29, is a versatile guard currently playing for the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA and has also played for Galatasaray in the Euro Cup and Turkish Basketball League.
She will join the REG team for the upcoming 2023 FIBA Africa Women’s Basketball Africa League (AWBL) taking place in Cairo, Egypt from December 11-19. Mitchell’s arrival is eagerly anticipated, with an official source confirming her expected arrival in Rwanda on Saturday, December 2. This signing comes following REG’s recent acquisition of Nia Clouden, a point guard from the Los Angeles Sparks also from the WNBA.
Mitchell’s basketball journey began at the collegiate level with the South Carolina Gamecocks, where she earned recognition as a two-time SEC Player of the Year. In addition to her impressive WNBA career, Mitchell has also gained experience playing in international leagues in Russia, Turkey, Israel, and Australia.
