Tennessee WR out after TD vs. Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Tennessee’s wide receiver, Dont’e Thornton, sustained an injury while executing a spectacular diving touchdown catch during the second quarter against Missouri on Saturday.

On third-and-9, quarterback Joe Milton launched a deep pass into the end zone. Thornton outmaneuvered the Missouri defender, making a 46-yard touchdown catch. This was Thornton’s first touchdown for the Vols since transferring from Oregon.

According to the CBS broadcast of the game, Thornton was ruled out after the injury. Chas Nimrod replaced Thornton in the lineup following the incident.

Dont’e Thornton Injury Update

After making the catch, Thornton remained on the ground, clutching his right lower leg. He was assisted off the field and couldn’t put any weight on his right leg.

Thornton was immediately taken to the injury tent on the UT sideline. The Vols are already dealing with a shortage of wide receivers, as Thornton has started the last three games following Bru McCoy’s season-ending ankle injury earlier in the season.
