Freddie Dilione is not expected to participate in the Maui Invitational for Tennessee basketball.
The Vols guard, Freddie Dilione, has a partial tear of the plantar fascia in his left foot, as confirmed by Vols coach Rick Barnes on Friday. UT doesn’t have a definitive timetable for Dilione’s return but anticipates him to be out for at least a week. Barnes mentioned that Dilione’s return will depend on the severity of the tear.
Dilione sustained the injury in Tennessee’s 82-61 victory over Wofford at the Thompson-Boling Arena at the Food City Center on Tuesday. He had been experiencing foot discomfort in his arch before that game. However, Barnes revealed that Dilione informed UT staff that he felt something pop during the Wofford game. Dilione underwent an MRI on Wednesday before the Vols’ departure for Honolulu on Thursday.
No. 8 Tennessee (3-0) is scheduled to kick off the Maui Invitational against Syracuse (3-0) on Monday (2:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2).
Freddie Dilione’s contribution in the first three games:
Dilione’s average stands at 2.3 points in 7.0 minutes through three games.
He played two minutes and grabbed a rebound before exiting the game on Tuesday.
