Ten police officers investigated for alleged failures to stop Met serial rapist David Carrick

Ten current and former police officers are currently under investigation for alleged mishandling of the case involving serial rapist David Carrick.

Carrick, a former firearms officer with the Metropolitan Police, was sentenced to 36 life sentences after confessing to numerous attacks on 12 women over a span of two decades.

However, it was later discovered that both Scotland Yard and other police forces had missed multiple opportunities to apprehend Carrick, despite receiving several complaints regarding his behavior dating back to 2000.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has confirmed that it is examining the conduct of 10 current and former officers and staff members in relation to their handling of the allegations against Carrick.

In July, the IOPC launched four separate investigations into alleged failings by the Metropolitan Police, relating to complaints made in 2002, 2016, 2019, and 2021.
