Phoenix Suns owner Mat Ishbia recently announced a $100 million investment in the construction of a dedicated practice facility for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and a downtown campus for Suns and Mercury employees. This move comes after Ishbia’s acquisition of the Suns and Mercury from Robert Sarver, where he brought in stars like 13-time All-Star Kevin Durant and three-time All-Star Bradley Beal.
The new facility, spanning 123,000 square feet, will not be shared with the Suns and is touted to be the best in the WNBA. Ishbia emphasized that this investment is aimed at providing a first-class facility designed specifically for the Mercury, showcasing his commitment to women’s basketball.
Currently, the Mercury share a practice facility with the Suns in north Phoenix, but this new development seeks to create a space dedicated solely to the Mercury. Moreover, the employee facility will include various amenities such as indoor and outdoor basketball courts, an arcade, a pickleball court, putting green, and a fan store.
“Culture matters — it’s how you treat people and take care of people,” Ishbia said, emphasizing the importance of creating a supportive environment for the teams and employees.
