As the National Basketball Association season prepares to tip off next week, StubHub anticipates a nearly 60% increase in ticket sales compared to the previous year. The Los Angeles Lakers, led by LeBron James, regain their position as the most in-demand team.
According to spokesperson Adam Budelli, StubHub’s annual NBA preview provides insight into the upcoming season based on extensive data analysis. The 2023-2024 season begins on October 24.
Budelli stated that there is a notable rise in demand for all teams this season, with a significant increase in international interest. The number of countries represented by fans attending North American games is projected to rise from 68 to 92, resulting in a 120% boost in international ticket sales, according to StubHub. Australia, the United Kingdom, and Brazil are among the countries with the highest attendance.
“While it’s difficult to pinpoint one specific factor, we have observed a resurgence in cross-border travel for live events, surpassing pre-pandemic levels,” Budelli explained.
The NBA has become increasingly international in recent years, with players such as Nikola Jokić of the Denver Nuggets, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, and rookie Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs. This global reach is expected to play a role in the league’s upcoming media rights negotiations.
