Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry delivered a stunning performance to secure a thrilling victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA’s new in-season tournament. Curry’s game-winning layup with just 0.2 seconds remaining sealed the 141-139 win for his team.
The shot was initially reviewed due to a possible violation by Curry’s teammate Draymond Green, who made contact with the basket rim as the ball went in, but it was ultimately allowed to stand.
Curry led the scoring for the Warriors with an impressive 30 points, while Dario Saric contributed 20 points off the bench.
Reflecting on the intense contest, Green remarked, “You just saw two teams competing. We talk about this in-season tournament, and it’s a play-off game. It was a fun game to play in, and the intensity level was there, so job well done to the NBA.”
The new tournament features a group stage, with the 30 teams randomly divided into six groups of five. Each group will play round-robin matches before advancing to the knockout stage. The quarter-finals will consist of the six group winners and the two teams from each conference with the best second-place group records.
In another opening match of the tournament, Nikola Jokic led the Denver Nuggets to a 125-114 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, scoring 33 points, grabbing 14 rebounds, and dishing out nine assists. Luka Doncic put up an impressive performance for the Mavericks with 34 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists.
