Backstrom is the Washington Capitals’ all-time leader in assists, having accumulated 1,033 points (271 goals, 762 assists) in 1,105 career games with the team. He ranks second in franchise history for points, games played, power-play points (421), and overtime goals (9). Additionally, Backstrom is fourth in goals, power-play goals (86), and game-winning goals (39). Backstrom was selected by the Capitals as the fourth overall pick in the first round of the 2006 NHL Draft. He is one of two players in franchise history to reach the milestone of 1,000 games played with Washington while also recording 1,000 points.
