QUEENS — St. John’s is eager to create an extraordinary non-conference schedule for the 2024-25 season.
During a post-practice interview at Carnesecca Arena on Friday, Rick Pitino, the head coach of St. John’s, exclusively revealed to College Hoops Today that the Red Storm is in advanced discussions to face off against Duke at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the 2024-25 season and Alabama at Madison Square Garden. St. John’s will reciprocate against Alabama in Birmingham for the 2025-26 season.
“We’re currently engaged in strong discussions for a game against Duke at Arthur Ashe Stadium,” Pitino stated when questioned about the status of the two games. “We have agreed to play against Alabama at MSG next season, and there will be a return game in Birmingham the following year. The only challenge now is finding the right dates.”
In addition to these matchups, St. John’s will also face a Big Ten opponent on the road as part of the Gavitt Games during the 2024-25 season and host a Big 12 opponent in the Big East-Big 12 Battle.
College Hoops Today previously reported that the Red Storm will participate in the 2024 Baha Mar Bahamas Hoops Championship alongside Baylor and Tennessee, with the fourth team yet to be determined.
“We are likely to have the strongest non-conference schedule in the history of St. John’s,” Pitino confidently stated in reference to the 2024-25 season. “Building a schedule of this caliber takes time.”
Currently ranked 23rd in the ROTHSCHILD 45, the Red Storm is gearing up for their first season under Pitino.
