Spurs star Victor Wembanyama aiming to play as much as possible this season ahead of opener

Victor Wembanyama, the highly anticipated rookie for the San Antonio Spurs, is eager to play as long as he is physically able to.

Although he hasn’t had much court time with the organization yet, Wembanyama made appearances in two summer league games and sat out one of their preseason games, which is understandable considering his busy offseason. He reached the finals in the French league before coming to the United States.

But now that the regular season is starting, Wembanyama is eager to step on the court.

“Every game. If there’s no excessive risk for my health, of course I can’t predict the future, but I want to play every single game,” Wembanyama said on Tuesday, via .

Wembanyama and the Spurs will kick off their season on Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks. Despite it being their first game of the season, it is already generating a lot of attention.

Everyone is excited to see Wembanyama play, and he is already feeling the difference compared to his previous two NBA appearances.

“This one feels even more surreal,” he said. “A month ago, I thought the preseason games would prepare me for this moment, and it would just be another game. But it feels completely different. It’s an actual NBA regular-season game, and that makes it different.”

Luka Dončić: ‘Everyone knows Wemby’

Like the rest of the league, the Mavericks are well aware of the challenges they will face when guarding Wembanyama.

During practice this week, assistant coach God Shammgod wore fake arm pads to mimic Wembanyama’s 7-foot-4 height and 8-foot wingspan. Although it looked a bit silly, it proved to be effective.

“Everyone knows Wemby, right? Some of the things I saw are crazy, what he does on the court,” Mavericks star Luka Dončić said, .

“Plus he’s 7-foot-4, the things he does for that length is unbelievable. The way he moves, the way he handles the ball, shoots the ball, and obviously the blocking. I’ve been watching, and obviously he’s an amazing player.”
