Sources – 49ers’ Christian McCaffrey will play against Vikings

San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey is set to play on Monday night against the Minnesota Vikings, as confirmed by sources to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

McCaffrey’s availability for the game was in question after he suffered an oblique injury during last Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns. However, the two-time Pro Bowl selection returned to practice as a limited participant on Saturday, stating that he felt “great” afterwards.

Sources informed Schefter that McCaffrey had a dedicated team working on his injury throughout the week, round the clock. However, he did not take any hits in practice, so his reaction to being tackled remains uncertain despite his participation in the game.

McCaffrey is determined to extend his impressive streak of consecutive games with a touchdown to 16, which would be the second-longest streak in NFL history. The record is currently held by former Baltimore Colts running back Lenny Moore, who achieved a 17-game touchdown streak spanning the 1963 and ’64 seasons.

Since joining the 49ers from the Carolina Panthers on Oct. 20, 2022, McCaffrey has not missed a single game.

Unfortunately, the 49ers will be without wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who suffered a hairline fracture in his shoulder during the game against the Browns. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Samuel will be sidelined for at least the next two weeks leading up to San Francisco’s Week 9 bye.

Sources also revealed to Schefter that left tackle Trent Williams is unlikely to play due to a sprained right ankle, also sustained in the game against Cleveland.
