Chelsea and Wales midfielder Sophie Ingle has set a new record for the most Women’s Super League appearances.

The 32-year-old played in her 184th WSL game on Saturday as the Blues faced Liverpool at Stamford Bridge to move one ahead of former Birmingham City and Tottenham defender Kerys Harrop.

Ingle has won the WSL title four times, the Women’s FA Cup on three occasions and the Women’s League Cup once.

Earlier this year, Ingle was made an OBE for services to football.

She began her career at Chelsea, had spells at Bristol Academy and Liverpool before returning back to Chelsea in 2018 and has played 120 times for Wales as well as four matches for Great Britain.

Ingle equalled Harrop’s total of 183 appearances when she came on as a substitute in the 3-0 win over Everton on 12 November.

After that match, she said: “It’s a nice record to get to. I’ve been in this league for many years now – and I suppose it shows my age as well.

It’s an honour for me to reach this, especially at a club like Chelsea.

I’ve been in the league for many years, and it is getting harder and harder every year. But it’s a nice achievement for myself.”

Ingle has played in 115 WSL games for Chelsea, 42 for Liverpool and 27 for Bristol Academy. She has scored eight WSL goals and registered 16 assists.
