Snooker set for major rule change for first time in decades as icon Jimmy White shows off his snazzy new outfit

JIMMY WHITE is set to make a formidable impression at an upcoming snooker event, opting for a stylish T-shirt over the traditional bow tie and waistcoat.

In a significant departure from traditional snooker attire, the iconic player will sport a specially-designed top for the Champion of Champions tournament, to be aired on ITV next week.

White, who will face world No 4 Mark Allen in the opening round on Monday, will proudly display his famous nickname, the Whirlwind, across the back of his new garment.

For this prestigious tournament in Bolton, each of the 16 players will wear a different colored top, reminiscent of attire typically seen in the Mosconi Cup for nine-ball pool players.

These custom tops will be available for purchase online at £45 each.

The six-time world championship finalist, now 61, expressed his thoughts, stating: “I do like the dress suit we wear in snooker but I don’t mind this at all. In fact, it’s quite comfortable.” He added, “You can’t really go out and buy a Jimmy White dress suit, can you?”

“People might start to have different color shirts for different tournaments,” he further noted.

White, a part of the World Snooker Tour, qualified for this event after securing his fourth World Seniors Championship, a competition for players aged over 40, at the Crucible in May.

When asked about his form leading up to the event, the South Londoner expressed his anticipation, saying: “I’m flying, I can’t wait.” He continued, “For me, this is the deep end of the season, going all the way into the World Championship in April. The next four to five months are full-on. Listen, every tournament I enter, it’s for me to win. I’m not there to make up the numbers.”

“I’ve been practicing solidly now for quite some time,” White added, sharing his preparations for the upcoming challenges.
