Currently ranked as the 38th best player in the world, the American tennis star concluded her season after participating in the North American hardcourt swing. Despite a first-round exit at the US Open against the 19th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, she reached the round of 16 at the San Diego Open where she was defeated by the second seed Caroline Garcia. She also suffered a surprising loss to the young Colombian player Emiliana Arango in the second round of the WTA 1000 Guadalajara Open.
In 2023, Stephens achieved a 20-20 win-loss record, marking her highest number of wins since 2019 when she had 24. However, this is still far from her impressive 2018 season when she accumulated 37 wins and finished as the world No. 6.
Nevertheless, Stephens will be representing the United States in the Billie Jean King Cup Finals, despite the absence of top-ranked players Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. The American team will also include Sofia Kenin, Madison Keys, Taylor Townsend, and Danielle Collins. The competition will take place in the Spanish city of Sevilla after the conclusion of the WTA Finals, beginning on November 7th.
