Skylar Diggins-Smith Earns All-WNBA First Team Honors with Phoenix Mercury in 2022
Skylar Diggins-Smith Uses Social Media to Tease WNBA Free Agency
Over the weekend, the 33-year-old guard took to social media to address fan suggestions regarding her upcoming free agency. One fan proposed that Diggins-Smith create a “Final 5” graphic to announce her potential suitors, similar to how college recruits announce their commitments.
“Is five teams too many?” Diggins-Smith questioned on X, the platform previously known as Twitter. “Do you really think I fit on five teams?”

The six-time WNBA All-Star is poised to become a free agent. Although Diggins-Smith sat out the 2023 season after giving birth to her second child, her tenure with the Phoenix Mercury reached a strained conclusion.
While both parties have not fully disclosed the reasons behind the strained relationship, Diggins-Smith has expressed her desire to move on. In September, she told Edition that she wants to be “supported” by her next team.
“I have been working diligently towards having one of my most productive years next season,” she said. “Often in sports, you are discouraged from having children. The teams I previously played for did not appreciate it when I became pregnant. Therefore, I am excited to find a team where my family and I will be supported and welcomed.”
Some fans have suggested that the Connecticut Sun could be a potential landing spot, while others believe Diggins-Smith should join the already formidable New York Liberty squad that made it to the WNBA Finals. Diggins-Smith acknowledged the latter suggestion by asking, “Would I come off the bench?”
However, she also made a promise not to use emojis during free agency, unlike star 2022 free agent Breanna Stewart who teased her decision with emojis for weeks before signing with New York.
