Silverado girls punch a ticket to the semis with a victory over Estancia

The Silverado girls’ tennis team is dominating the court.

In the CIF-Southern Section Division 6 quarterfinals on Monday afternoon, Silverado secured a spot in the program’s first-ever semifinal appearance. The Hawks defeated Estancia 13-5 at home.

This achievement is even more remarkable due to being only the third girls tennis program from the High Desert to earn a CIF-SS playoffs semifinal appearance. The last local girls squad to reach the semis was Apple Valley in 2021.

“This is a big deal for us, but these girls aren’t quite done,” said Silverado coach Bill Mocharnuk. “This was a tough win over an Orange County team that was consistent and tricky to play. Hitting the ball with patience paid off as we started ahead the first round with a 4-2 lead. It was just another great team effort.”
