Sheridan volleyball falls in 5; Sheridan girls soccer marches on

CHILLICOTHE — Sheridan, the top-seeded team, found itself in a familiar situation, facing a crucial fifth set to prolong its season.

Regrettably, the Generals fell short as Marietta, the fourth seed, mounted a comeback and secured a 14-25, 22-25, 31-29, 25-18, 15-8 victory in the Division II district semifinal held at Chillicothe Southeastern.

This loss marked the end of Sheridan’s streak of five consecutive district championships (2018-22).

Leading the way for Sheridan was Jamisyn Stinson, who recorded 21 kills, eight digs, and four aces. Nora Saffell contributed 15 kills and two blocks, while Payton Powell showcased her versatility with 20 digs, 18 assists, five kills, and four aces. Dylan Fox contributed 41 assists, five digs, and three kills, and Ava Heller added 11 kills and 12 digs.

In the other district semifinal, Marietta will go up against Fairfield Union, who emerged victorious in four sets against New Lex. The district final will take place at noon on Saturday at Southeastern.

Girls Soccer

Division II

Sheridan 3, Circleville 1: In the second half, Dylan Gibbs scored twice, including a crucial penalty kick that gave the fifth-seeded Generals a 2-1 lead with 26:48 remaining in the match. As a result, Sheridan advanced to the district final where they will face Fairfield Union on Thursday.

Emily Malone opened the scoring for Sheridan, finding the back of the net with a rebound about 10 minutes into the match. However, the third-seeded Tigers equalized when Faith Yancey scored with 13:33 left in the first half.

Boys Soccer

Division III

Hiland 3, Rosecrans 0: In the first half, Caedon Hershberger, Zach Gingerich, and Zeke Bodiker each scored a goal, leading the top-seeded Hawks to a victory over the fourth-seeded Bishops in the district semifinal held at Coshocton’s Stewart Field. Christian Mullett and Ohlen Troyer added goals in the second half.
