Scullion wins third straight tournament

Nov. 4—BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Cumberland sophomore Tom Scullion emerged as the individual medalist during the Mid-South Conference Fall Preview, which concluded on Tuesday. Despite the Phoenix relinquishing the lead and settling for second place, Scullion’s impressive performance stole the spotlight.

Cumberland improved their score by shooting a 295 in the final round, totaling 593 strokes for a second-place finish. However, Lindsey Wilson claimed victory with a team score of 588 after shooting 1-over in the final round. Campbellsville finished four strokes behind Cumberland, with a total score of 21-over par.

Scullion continued his winning streak, securing his third consecutive victory. The English golfer delivered a flawless round of 68, including four birdies, allowing him to catch Callum Waugh from Lindsey Wilson and claim the individual medalist title. Scullion has now earned this prestigious honor at the NAIA Fall Preview, the Gibson Bay Invite, and the Mid-South Conference Fall Preview.

Lindgreen showcased consistent performance, shooting a 3-over 75 for both rounds. With 16 pars, one bogey, and one double bogey, he finished in a tie for ninth place.

Will Samuelsson finished with a total of 151 shots after shooting a 78 in the final round. Although he began the day in the top 3, he ended up in a tie for 13th place. Samuelsson accumulated one birdie, five bogeys, and a double.

Tiger Houston and Patrick Chesnut tied for 16th place. They both posted scores of 77 on the first day, but improved to 76 on the second day. Houston had a solid start, going 1-under through the first seven holes, but struggled with bogeys on six of the following eight holes. He finished at four-over after a birdie on the second to last hole. Chesnut began his round with a score of one-over through six holes and managed to go under par with consecutive birdies on holes 1 and 2. However, he encountered a double bogey and three bogeys in a six-hole stretch, ending with a score of 76.

Josh Taylor and Colin Smith finished one stroke and one place apart, claiming 29th and 30th places, respectively. Taylor shot an 82, bringing his total to 159 strokes, with eight pars and 10 bogeys. Smith shot a 78, concluding the tournament with 160 shots. He achieved birdies on holes 6 and 15, but also accumulated four bogeys and two doubles.

The conclusion of the Mid-South Conference Fall Preview marked the end of Cumberland’s fall schedule. The team will return to the course in the spring.

Women finish third; Lind climbs leaderboard to finish second

Cumberland’s women’s team entered the final round in third place and maintained their position to conclude the Mid-South Conference Fall Preview. The team shot a final round score of 329, 11 strokes worse than the previous day, resulting in a total of 647 strokes. The University of the Cumberlands claimed victory with a score of 614, followed closely by Lindsey Wilson with 621 strokes.

Matilda Lind showcased an outstanding performance, matching the lowest round of the day with a score of 1-over par 73. Her stellar round allowed her to climb three places and finish in a tie for second place, earning her all-tournament honors. Lind recorded three birdies and four bogeys throughout the day.

Caitlin Bilham also made significant progress in the leaderboard, finishing tied for 10th place. Bilham improved her score by four strokes compared to the previous round, shooting a 79 and concluding the tournament with 162 strokes. She recorded one birdie, four bogeys, and two doubles during her round.

Nathalie Nutu’s final round score of 88 caused her to drop from a tie for second place to a tie for 15th. Nutu finished with a total of 164 strokes and achieved one birdie during her round.

Ida Furuheim secured 17th place, scoring an 83, just one stroke behind Nutu. Furuheim also recorded one birdie but accumulated nine bogeys and one triple.

Lucy Labdon finished in a tie for 20th place, carding an 85 in the final round for a total of 168 shots. Labdon achieved a birdie but faced 12 bogeys and one double during her round.

Franziska Mramor and Ksenia Yakovleva rounded out Cumberland’s scores. Mramor finished in 36th place with an 86, while Yakovleva posted a 95, concluding the tournament in 38th place.

The Mid-South Conference Fall Preview marked the end of Cumberland’s fall schedule. The team will return to the course in the spring.
