In their quest to reach the group stages of the Women’s Champions League for the first time, Glasgow City remains undeterred by the challenge of overturning a 4-0 deficit against SK Brann, according to former midfielder Leanne Crichton.
For the second leg of the second qualifying round in Norway on Wednesday, the Scottish side needs an extraordinary performance.
Last week, the Norwegian champions Brann dominated City, scoring three goals before halftime. However, Crichton found hope in City’s second-half performance.
“Anything is possible,” she confidently stated.
The ex-Scotland midfielder went on to explain, “In crucial matches, if you fail to perform and make the right moves, it ultimately comes down to narrow margins. City struggled immensely in the first half.”
“However, in the second half, they showed promise and should have scored pivotal goals. They had a couple of excellent opportunities that could have put them back in the game,” Crichton emphasized.
“It just takes one early goal. If they manage to score one or two goals in the first half, it will certainly make things interesting.”
Crichton, who has reached the Champions League quarter-finals twice with City, in 2014 and 2019, urges Leanne Ross’ team to utilize their experience in high-pressure games to produce unexpected results at the Brann Stadion.
“Maybe I’m just an optimistic former Glasgow City player who will put aside my bias after the game, but they have been in this situation before, and I believe the tie is far from over,” she concluded.
