FLUSHING − The NYSPHSAA team championship is a relatively new event, having been around for only three years, and Section 1 has managed to secure the title each year.
Continuing this impressive streak, Bronxville and Scarsdale triumphed at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
The Broncos clinched the Division 2 title for the first time in the program’s history, triumphing over Section 8’s Cold Spring Harbor with a score of 3-2.
Victoria McEnroe, Section 1’s singles champion, along with Hannah Shammas and the doubles team of Rose Woolery and Astrid Pulkkinen, won their respective matches, ultimately securing the win for Bronxville.
“This victory holds significant meaning for the school,” expressed McEnroe. “Tennis has made unprecedented strides, adding a whole new dimension to Bronxville’s athletic endeavors. Our sports teams have always excelled, and now we can proudly add tennis to that list.”
Scarsdale secured their third consecutive Division 1 team championship by dominating Section 8’s Syosset with a score of 7-0.
Leading up to the finals, Scarsdale emerged victorious against Section 6’s Williamsville East, while Bronxville swept Section 3’s Oneida with a score of 5-0.
