Saquon Barkley takes issue with fans cheering Daniel Jones’ injury

Giants offensive tackle Evan Neal made the unwise decision to engage in a confrontation with fans last week, reacting negatively to their boos. Saquon Barkley, the running back, offered his teammate some wise advice, urging him to avoid battles with fans. Barkley emphasized that such battles can never be won since fans have been supporting the team long before their arrival and will continue to do so after they’re gone. Truthfully speaking, Barkley’s words hold significant weight.

A video captured Barkley barking back at fans in the stands during the team’s recent loss to Miami. When asked about the incident, he explained that he was defending quarterback Daniel Jones, who had gone into the medical tent due to a neck injury. Barkley expressed his frustration, highlighting Jones’ commitment to the team and his willingness to risk everything for the franchise and the city. He found it disheartening that while Jones was seeking medical attention, a fan was disrespecting him.

Barkley’s passionate defense stems from the fact that the Giants have struggled this season, with a 1-4 record. Additionally, Jones’ passer rating of 71.7 ranks 33rd in the NFL. Despite there being only 32 starting quarterbacks in the league, Jones finds himself placed lower due to Indianapolis having two quarterbacks ahead of him.

Barkley acknowledged that fans have the right to express their disappointment with the team’s performance, but he drew the line at fans who cheered when a teammate got injured. He understands that fans booing or cheering is part of the game, but he urges them to have sympathy and remember that the players are human beings. He expressed his discomfort with the fact that Jones, out of all people, was subjected to such treatment.

This Sunday, it seems unlikely that Jones will be able to play after missing another practice, but the Giants have not completely ruled him out. Barkley also mentioned that while his ankle injury is improving, he’s uncertain whether he’ll be able to return to play against the Bills.
