Rory McIlroy stunned as winner of 2023 PGA Tour’s Player Impact Program, dethroning Tiger Woods!
On Wednesday, a PGA Tour memo revealed that McIlroy, by generating the most engagement this season, has secured $15 million from a $100 million jackpot distributed among the top 20 finishers
Introduced in 2020-21, the Player Impact Program (PIP) aims to reward members who, through objective criteria, drive positive interest in the Tour. According to Jason Gore, the Tour’s EVP and chief player officer, “the program’s scoring model aims to quantify the impact each player has on the PGA Tour.”
Woods took home $12 million for finishing second, while Jon Rahm, the winner of the Masters, earned $9 million. Collin Morikawa, a previous top 20 finisher, still earned $3 million despite dropping to No. 14.
Recipients will receive 75% of their money in January, with the remaining 25% to be distributed upon fulfilling their Player Impact Program Service, as per the memo.
MVP Index and Q-Score were replaced for determining the 2022-23 rankings. Surveys handled by MARC General Population Awareness and MARC Golf Fan Awareness will now weigh in. The certified results by Grant Thornton mark a shift in the PIP’s administration.
Plans for next season’s PIP include reducing the total to $50 million, with the top 10 finishers receiving the funds. The rest will be reallocated to the FedEx Cup bonus and player programs
This hasn’t been well-received by as Nate Lashley took to social media to express his dissatisfaction. The veteran golfer expressed his dismay and disapproval, calling for new leadership within the PGA Tour
