Rory McIlroy, together with Tiger Woods, is a co-founder of TGL’s parent company TMRW Sports.
Boston Common Golf has added Rory McIlroy to their roster, along with the announcement that his venture capital company, Symphony Ventures, is now part of the ownership group of Fenway Sports Group.
In a press release, McIlroy expressed his excitement about joining Boston Common Golf and representing the rich sports culture of Boston and New England. He also mentioned the unique dimension that TGL brings to the game of golf and the opportunity to build connections and foster regional pride.
Other players such as Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, and Patrick Cantlay are also waiting to be placed on the rosters of the five other teams.
Notably missing from the list is Jon Rahm, who was previously a participant in TGL but mysteriously disappeared from the website.
There is speculation among golf insiders that Rahm’s absence may indicate his departure from the PGA Tour for LIV Golf, which would be a setback for TGL as they prepare to begin play on January 9.
John Henry, the principal owner of Fenway Sports Group, praised the quartet of McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Keegan Bradley, and Adam Scott, highlighting their exceptional achievements and the awe they inspire in their competitors.
Each of the six TGL teams will use three players at each of their five regular season matches, with four teams qualifying for the postseason. The games will be played at the SoFi Center, a venue currently under construction in Palm Beach, Florida.
Only a few roster appointments have been announced so far, with Justin Thomas representing Atlanta Drive GC and Collin Morikawa playing for LAGC, Los Angeles’ team.
The New York and San Francisco teams have yet to reveal their team names, and there is one franchise still to be announced.
Bradley, who hails from Woodstock, Vermont, expressed his pride in joining Boston Common Golf and representing New England’s rich golfing history. Hatton, from High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, England, mentioned his lifelong fandom of Liverpool F.C. and his excitement in being part of the Fenway Sports Group family.
Scott, an Australian golfer, achieved his first PGA Tour win at the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Massachusetts.
The four golfers will hold a press conference at Fenway Park on Monday.
