Rory McIlroy’s upcoming encounter with Patrick Cantlay is sure to be interesting after the world No 2 referred to the American as “a d—” amidst the ongoing fallout from the Ryder Cup.

It’s been almost two months since Europe defeated Team USA in Rome, yet the unpleasant dispute continues to stir tensions. McIlroy’s statements in an interview with the Irish Independent concerning his flare-up with caddie Joe LaCava will undoubtedly not help ease the situation.

“I start having a go at them,” McIlroy said, referring to his altercation with Ricky Elliott [Brooks Koepka’s caddie] and Claude Harmon [Koepka’s coach] at the team hotel.
