Roof collapses at arena for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s new indoor golf league in Florida

The highly anticipated indoor golf league, supported by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, encountered a setback when the roof of the TGL’s SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, collapsed due to an apparent power failure. Although no injuries were reported, the air-supported dome suffered significant damage, raising questions about the league’s projected start date of January 9.

The TGL released a statement acknowledging an overnight failure in the temporary power system used during construction as the cause of the damage. However, they have yet to determine the full impact on their timelines. Despite the setback, the league is continuing with other work at the site.

The SoFi Center will serve as the hosting venue for the league’s matches, featuring a 250,000 square foot space with the capacity to seat 2,000 people. The dome will introduce innovative features such as a 64-by-46-foot simulator screen for drives and a 97-by-50-yard playing surface with real grass and bunkers for chipping and putting.

With plans to debut on ESPN on January 9 and subsequent events televised on ESPN and ESPN2, the league has garnered significant interest, with five of the six teams already sold to ownership groups. Notable names in the golf world, including Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, and Rickie Fowler, have committed to participating alongside McIlroy and Woods. Despite the setback, the league seeks to proceed with full steam ahead in the coming weeks and months.
