Reinhart’s OT goal lifts Panthers past Capitals

During a power play, Sonny Milano of the Capitals appeared to give his team a 3-2 lead at 11:34, but the play was challenged by Florida for offside. After a video review, the call was reversed.

At 15:51, Mantha did score to make it 3-2, taking advantage of a 2-on-1 opportunity with McMichael, who initiated the rush by intercepting a pass from Panthers defenseman Mike Reilly in the defensive zone.

McMichael commented, “[Mantha] beat the backchecker and I just had to slide it over to him, and he had a good finish.”

Rodrigues tied the game 3-3 at 3:33 of the third period by tapping in a backdoor pass from Gustav Forsling at the right post.

“We’ve been trying to make that play happen pretty much the whole year,” said Rodrigues. “He makes a great play. A big goal, and it helped us get the win.”

NOTES: Reinhart set a new Panthers record for the fastest overtime goal, surpassing Aaron Ekblad. Mantha left the game in the third period due to injury, and Barkov extended his impressive point streak against the Capitals, while Ovechkin continues to search for his next goal.
