Arkansas State’s men’s basketball team fought hard, despite a 81-75 loss to Bowling Green, with Taryn Todd leading the team with 31 points. A-State (0-2) put up a strong fight, battling back from double-digit deficits but ultimately fell short in the MAC-SBC Challenge game.
Even though A-State shot 49.2% from the field, Bowling Green’s 50% field goal percentage and 75% free-throw shooting secured the win. Todd’s impressive performance, with 14 field-goals, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists, made him the first A-State player to achieve a 30-5-5 performance since 2014. Dyondre Dominguez also impressed with his second career double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 boards, while Freddy Hicks added 12 points.
Derrian Ford scored eight points off the bench and tied Hicks with two 3-point makes, while getting six rebounds. A-State outscored Bowling Green in the paint 50-46 and blocked six shots, two by Dominguez. The Falcons initially led with a 15-3 run, only to be countered by A-State with a 13-0 run, ending the first half with a 34-31 lead for Bowling Green.
Bowling Green took a 47-41 advantage after halftime but A-State rallied back, taking a 53-52 lead on a Todd layup. However, a 10-0 run by the Falcons moved them ahead 62-53. A-State fought back, closing an 11-point gap, but ultimately lost with a 2-point margin after a late surge from Bowling Green.
A-State’s next game is the home opener against Alcorn State on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in the First National Bank Arena.
