Megan Rapinoe is poised to enhance her already illustrious football career by adding another trophy to her collection.
OL Reign, led by Rapinoe, secured their spot in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) final following a narrow 1-0 triumph over the San Diego Wave.
A goal from Veronica Latsko in the 47th minute proved decisive in the semi-final encounter, setting up Rapinoe for one final match as her Seattle-based club prepares to face Gotham FC for the championship title. The final showdown will take place at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego next Saturday.
Rapinoe, known not only for her on-field accomplishments but also for her advocacy work, had previously announced that this would be her final season in professional football.
In September, she bid farewell to her extraordinary international career with the US national team, having scored 63 goals in 203 appearances spanning over 17 years, in a special match held at Soldier Field in Chicago.
In the upcoming game, Rapinoe will strive to capture a trophy that has eluded her so far as the Reign squares off against Gotham FC, who eliminated reigning champions Portland with a 1-0 victory in extra time earlier on Sunday.
Furthermore, the championship match will also mark the final game of Ali Krieger’s career for Gotham FC. Krieger is a two-time World Cup winner with the USA.
