DALLAS (AP) — Mason Marchment scored the go-ahead goal in the third period after the Dallas Stars overturned a disallowed goal through a successful coach’s challenge, ultimately coming back from a two-goal deficit to defeat the surging New York Rangers 6-3 on Monday night.
Contributions also came from Jamie Benn, Joe Pavelski, Tyler Seguin, Sam Steel, and Roope Hintz for the Stars, who trailed 2-0 midway through the second period before orchestrating a remarkable turnaround with six consecutive goals, including five in the third. Scott Wedgewood, making his fifth start of the season, made 30 saves.
Vincent Trocheck, Kaapo Kakko, and Barclay Goodrow scored for the Rangers, who entered the game with an impressive four-game winning streak, an 11-game points streak (10-0-1), and a club record-setting 12 wins in their first 15 games. Igor Shesterkin stopped 30 shots.
Marchment managed to poke the puck into the net while Shesterkin attempted to secure it at 7:06 of the third period. The goal was initially disallowed for goaltender interference before Dallas’ successful challenge.
Seguin extended the Stars’ lead less than two minutes later after a Rangers’ unsuccessful challenge for goalie interference.
Steel and Hintz netted empty-net goals in the final four minutes during a 6-on-4 power play for the Rangers, and Goodrow scored with 15.2 seconds left to wrap up the scoring.
Artemi Panarin for the Rangers was unable to nab a point for the first time in the season, ending his 15-game point streak (10 goals, 16 assists) which had set the club record for the beginning of a season.
The next matchups are as follows: Rangers will face Pittsburgh on Wednesday night, while the Stars are set to host Vegas on Wednesday night.
