Sylhet, Nov 25 (IANS): All-rounder Rachin Ravindra is gearing up for New Zealand’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting from November 28, after making a mark in the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup. Having had a stellar time in the white-ball format, Ravindra is now focusing on red-ball cricket, aiming to adjust to different situations and bring his A-game to the longer format of the game.
Reflecting on his recent white-ball experience in the World Cup, Ravindra expressed his eagerness to return to red-ball cricket, emphasizing the importance of positive intent and adaptability to the conditions. He highlighted the need to dial back on risks and play a more calculated game based on the pitch and match situation in Test cricket.
Ravindra’s outstanding performance in the ODI World Cup, where he scored 578 runs in ten matches at an average of 64.22, with three centuries and two fifties, has raised expectations for his red-ball cricket abilities. With only three Test appearances to his name, he recognizes the importance of adaptability on spin-friendly pitches in the sub-continent.
Emphasizing the longer format of the game, Ravindra stressed the need for composure and adaptability, acknowledging the transition from the shorter format to Test cricket. He highlighted the different role he may play in Bangladesh and the adjustments needed to face slower bowling instead of seam.
As New Zealand prepares to face Bangladesh, Ravindra is looking to contribute with his left-arm spin, seeking guidance from spin-bowling coach Saqlain Mushtaq and drawing from his experience of playing T20Is in Bangladesh in 2021. He also aims to utilize a faster pace in his bowling to enhance his chances of success in the longer format.
