WEST LAFAYETTE − Zach Edey is prepared for the challenge.
Purdue basketball’s season-opening opponent Samford has had some fun with the fact that Purdue’s 7-foot-4 center Edey, the reigning National Player of the Year, will be at center court for the jump ball.
Through a series of vignettes on social media, Samford coach Bucky McMillan seems to be training 5-foot-7 sophomore guard Dallas Graziani to go up against Edey on the opening tip.
Purdue coach Matt Painter has seen Samford’s videos over the past week. And on Monday night in Mackey Arena, Edey will be jumping center, facing off against Graziani or anyone else McMillan chooses.

Edey finds the humor in it all.
“After all the videos they’re making, they better send him out there,” Edey said with a smile after Sunday’s practice. “He better do the jump ball.”
