The Boston Celtics will be without Kristaps Porzingis for their quarterfinal game of the In-Season Tournament due to a calf injury. Although not considered to be serious, the injury has sidelined him for this crucial match against the Indiana Pacers.
The Celtics announced on Sunday that they have ruled Porzingis out of Monday’s game, citing a left calf strain he suffered on November 24 against the Orlando Magic.
Porzingis underwent an MRI earlier in the week, which revealed a low-level strain in his calf. Despite showing signs of improvement, the Celtics are taking a cautious approach and giving him extra time to recover, as the team will not play another game until at least Thursday after Monday’s match.
Boston secured their spot in the In-Season Tournament quarterfinals by winning Group C on Tuesday. If they defeat the Pacers on Monday, they will advance to the semifinals in Las Vegas. However, if they lose, they will play a regular-season game on Friday.
Porzingis traveled with the Celtics to Indiana on Sunday, raising hopes for his return later in the week and potentially helping his team win the NBA Cup in its inaugural year if they can secure a victory on Monday night.
The Celtics will face the Pacers at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston.
