Pistons vs. Hornets preview: Detroit Pistons look to rebound against LaMelo Ball and Charlotte Hornets

Cade Cunningham and multiple Detroit Pistons displayed their skills in the team’s devastating 103-102 loss to the Miami Heat on Wednesday. While some players like Jaden Ivey and Killian Hayes faced difficulties, Cunningham, without a doubt, delivered an outstanding performance as Detroit’s star player.

He demonstrated complete control over the game, showcasing his versatility in scoring. Notably, his mid-range game was exceptionally lethal, and his perimeter shot was greatly improved compared to previous years. Cunningham ended the game with an impressive stat line of 30 points, nine assists, and only three turnovers. Although three turnovers may not seem significant, it is particularly noteworthy for a young player with a history of turnover issues, especially considering that the Pistons committed a total of 16 turnovers throughout the night.

Rookie Ausar Thompson may have struggled with his shooting, but he made an impact with his remarkable five(!) blocks in his NBA debut. Isaiah Stewart also performed exceptionally well as a center, excelling in scoring inside and dominating the boards. Despite initial struggles, Jalen Duren finished strong, recording a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Tonight, the Pistons will face LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets, who also showcased strong performances from their big men in their first game. Mark Williams contributed 13 points and 15 rebounds in their victory over the Atlanta Hawks, while PJ Washington recorded an impressive 25 points and five rebounds.

To secure a win, the Pistons must contain Ball’s offensive prowess. It will be a challenging test and a valuable opportunity for a Detroit team that has emphasized the significance of defense since the arrival of Monty Williams. Ball has been known to struggle with his shooting and committing turnovers. If Thompson, Cunningham, and Hayes can apply defensive pressure, forcing him into mistakes, the Pistons stand a chance at victory.
