Tennis legend Pete Sampras revealed the heartbreaking news on Sunday that his wife, actress Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, is battling ovarian cancer and facing an incredibly tough time.
In a statement released through the Association of Tennis Professionals, Sampras shared that Wilson-Sampras has undergone extensive surgery and chemotherapy and is now undergoing maintenance therapy.
“It’s incredibly difficult to witness someone you love endure such a challenge,” he expressed, while commending their two sons for their unwavering support of their mother.
Wilson-Sampras, who previously held the title of Miss Teen USA, has made appearances in notable films such as “Billy Madison” (1995), “The Wedding Planner” (2001), and “Shopgirl” (2005). She also made a memorable guest appearance as a potential love interest for Kelsey Grammer’s character on a 2002 episode of “Frasier.” The couple tied the knot in 2000, and Wilson-Sampras received her cancer diagnosis in December.
“Watching Bridgette continue to be an incredible mother and wife throughout this journey has been truly inspiring,” Sampras shared.
Sampras, widely regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time with 14 Grand Slam singles titles to his name, retired from the sport in 2003.
“I have also learned that it can be tremendously challenging to seek support when the topic is too difficult to discuss,” he concluded his statement. “Therefore, I humbly ask for your positive thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues her healing journey.”
