The Minnesota Wild (5-10-4) continue to struggle, as Joel Eriksson Ek scored their only goal in a 4-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
Wild coach Dean Evason expressed his frustration, saying, “I think frustration is turning to anger – I hope they are as angry as we are. What makes me mad is we’re making the same mistakes and the same guys are not pulling their weight. Most nights, our mistakes don’t give us a true chance of winning the hockey game.”
Filip Gustavsson made 19 saves, but the Wild’s winless streak now stands at seven games.
Forward Pat Maroon voiced his disappointment, stating, “Seven in a row is unacceptable, especially with this group of guys. We should be [ticked] off right now and we should be [ticked] off when we play the next game. We need to understand what is at stake here – we’re losing points by the sack.”
The Red Wings took an early lead with a power-play goal from Perron, but Eriksson Ek managed to tie the game on a power play late in the first period.
Despite efforts from Larkin and Perron, the Wild could not turn the game around. Forward Frederick Gaudreau admitted fault, saying, “That one is on me. They came in 2-on-2 and I made a bad read.”
The game ended with a 4-1 victory for the Red Wings, with Gostisbehere securing an empty-net goal in the final minute.
As the Wild struggle, it’s worth noting that defenseman Alex Goligoski returned to play after missing 15 games due to an injury, and forward Mats Zuccarello’s point streak extended to seven games. On the other hand, the Red Wings’ Perron reached a career milestone with his 300th goal, solidifying his reputation as a highly competitive player.
