The Pittsburgh Penguins (3-6-0) are embarking on a three-game road trip in California, starting with a match against the struggling San Jose Sharks (0-9-1). The Penguins have had a rough stretch, losing five out of their last six games. Meanwhile, the Sharks recently suffered a devastating 10-1 defeat at home against Vancouver.

Penguins Look Ahead

After a disappointing start to the season, the Penguins have a lot at stake in their upcoming game against the struggling Sharks. They need a win to avoid the inevitable backlash that would follow if they become the first team to lose to San Jose this season.

“They’re an NHL club that’s going to be very hungry,” said Penguins coach Mike Sullivan, acknowledging the Sharks’ determination.

Among the noteworthy storylines, Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson and forward Matt Nieto will face their former team, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the game. Additionally, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will be playing in his 1,200th career game. Karlsson, who previously played for the Sharks, had an impressive 101-point season and won the Norris Trophy last year.

Expectations are high for the Penguins, and they are making one change to their lines that may please their fan base. Fourth-line right winger Jeff Carter will be sitting out, making way for Vinnie Hinostroza, who will be making his Penguins debut.
