Contrary to expectations, the shutout victory over Colorado on Thursday did not mark a turning point for the Pittsburgh Penguins’ season. Instead, it proved to be a mere blip as they suffered a 5-2 loss to Ottawa at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday night, dissipating any momentum gained from beating one of the NHL’s top teams.
The Penguins, currently with a 3-5 record, have now lost four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Senators, a team the Penguins will likely compete against for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, improved to 4-4 after breaking their three-game losing streak.
Notably, Colorado had arrived in Pittsburgh having won a record-breaking 15 consecutive regular-season road games.
